Star Energy Geothermal and Bakti Barito Deliver Eco-Friendly Classrooms, Marking Completion of Post-Earthquake Recovery at SDN 3 Barusari

Star Energy Geothermal Darajat II (SEGD), in collaboration with Bakti Barito, today inaugurated three new classrooms at SDN 3 Barusari, marking the completion of the school’s full reconstruction following the major Garut earthquake in 2024. This inauguration represents the tangible realization of SEGD and Bakti Barito’s long-term commitment to supporting recovery and sustainable development in the region.

The final phase of construction was fully funded by SEGD, addressing the community’s urgent need to restore educational facilities that were severely damaged by the disaster.

In partnership with Happy Hearts Indonesia (HHI) as the implementing organization, the construction utilized recycled plastic bricks. A total of four tons of plastic waste were repurposed into building materials, helping not only to reduce plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills but also to prevent approximately 9.5 tons of carbon emissions.

“We believe that restoring access to education is the foundation for a community’s long-term recovery and resilience,” said Dian A. Purbasari, Director of Bakti Barito. “We are very proud to collaborate with our own business unit, Star Energy Geothermal Darajat II, which has shown outstanding commitment by fully funding the completion of this project. This inauguration is not merely a symbol of physical reconstruction, but also a sign of the restored learning spirit at SDN 3 Barusari. It is concrete proof of our commitment not just to rebuild, but to rebuild better and more sustainably for Indonesia’s children.”

Meanwhile, Zerry Antro, Head of Policy, Government, and Public Affairs at Star Energy Geothermal, stated that the company remains committed to supporting holistic and continuous community recovery.

“As a long-term partner of the Garut community, we felt compelled to contribute. When we learned that SDN 3 Barusari still had remaining needs, we immediately took action to help. We are proud to hand over this facility—built with environmentally friendly materials—as our support for the future leaders of Garut,” he said.

The three newly built classrooms, fully furnished and ready for use, were officially handed over to the school and its students during the inauguration ceremony. The event was attended by representatives from Bakti Barito, Star Energy Geothermal, Happy Hearts Indonesia, and the Garut Regency Government, represented by the Department of Education and the Environmental Agency.

This event marks the conclusion of SDN 3 Barusari’s long recovery journey and a new beginning for hundreds of children to continue learning with enthusiasm in a safe, comfortable, and sustainable environment.
