MINYAKU: Used Cooking Oil Management

MINYAKU (Manajemen Pengumpulan Minyak Jelantah untuk Lingkungan) is an innovative sustainability program driven by the Chandra Asri Group to encourage active community participation in the circular economy.

Supported by Bakti Barito, MINYAKU drives active community and youth participation in waste management, converting household used cooking oil (UCO) into certified, eco-friendly renewable energy feedstock.

To expand the reach and educational impact of MINYAKU, Bakti Barito integrates its flagship Green Guardians program into the initiative.

Through Green Guardians, school children learn circular economy principles firsthand by participating in structured used cooking oil collection:

  • Grassroots Education: Students collect clean used cooking oil from their homes and bring it to designated collection points at their schools.
  • Widespread School Network: The initiative engages school children across Bakti Barito’s supported school network, spanning Garut, Cilegon, and West Jakarta.
  • Building Lifelong Habits: By turning everyday waste collection into a school activity, youth become proactive environmental ambassadors for their families and neighborhoods.

How MINYAKU Works: The Transformation Journey

Through a simple yet highly effective system, Chandra Asri Group’s brand TUKR turn waste into valuable biofuel:

  • Collection: Used cooking oil is gathered from partner factories, restaurants, and hotels, and is then transported by TUKR to a centralized warehouse.
  • Quality Testing: Once collected in large quantities, the oil undergoes rigorous laboratory testing at the warehouse to ensure it meets the specific demands of energy companies.
  • Strict Standards: The exported used cooking oil must be pure and free from contamination, and it must meet specific fatty acid requirements, such as being slightly above, below, or exactly at 5%.
  • Global Export & Processing: The qualifying stock is separated and exported in large batches to purchasing companies, where it is officially transformed into sustainable biofuel.
