Economic Empowerment for Coffee Farmers
The “Kopi Barusari Petani Andalan Pasirwangi (Kopi Pelangi)” program is an innovative community empowerment initiative by Star Energy Geothermal Darajat II to develop and train local coffee farmers in high-quality cultivation practices.
This successful model drove significant economic change, resulting in an 86% increase in annual income for coffee farmers, rising from Rp 9 million to Rp 16.8 million per hectare.
Impact
as of December 2023
The initiative helped reduce flooding in Barusari Village by planting coffee trees on previously bare land to improve water absorption.
Empowering Local Enterprise
A key element of Star Energy Geothermal’s economic empowerment initiative is the robust partnership with the Village-Owned Enterprise, BUMDes Jaya Bersama in Barusari Village. This collaboration is vital for the Kopi Barusari program, which is specifically designed to significantly boost coffee business activities.
The BUMDes acts as a stable and profitable off-taker, purchasing local Arabica coffee at a fair price and marketing it under its own brand, “Kopi Nyampak”. Through this support structure, the BUMDes successfully processes and accommodates at least 3 tons of coffee per day from the local farmers.
By focusing on increasing local production (with a target to boost overall output by 50%) and expanding its market presence in Garut Regency and Bandung City, the BUMDes model ensures that the economic benefits from high-quality coffee cultivation are channeled directly back to the community, helping to achieve sustainable income growth for local farmers.
