The DAS Cidanau Program
Water is a fundamental resource—not just for our operations at Chandra Asri Group, but for the health, livelihoods, and future of the surrounding communities in Banten. To ensure long-term water security and ecological balance, we are proud to champion the DAS Cidanau (Cidanau Watershed) Program, a pioneering initiative rooted in community empowerment and environmental stewardship.

A New Approach to Conservation: Payment for Environmental Services (PES)
Traditional conservation often relies on strict regulations, but true sustainability requires collaboration. Through our DAS Cidanau program, Chandra Asri implements a Payment for Environmental Services (PES)—or Imbal Jasa Lingkungan—model.
Rather than treating water as a limitless commodity, we actively invest in its source. We provide financial compensation to local upstream farmers who commit to preserving the forest ecosystem on their land. By incentivizing the protection of tree stands over deforestation or land clearing, we ensure the watershed continues to effectively catch, store, and naturally filter water for the entire region.
Empowering Local Partnerships
We do not do this alone. The success of the DAS Cidanau program relies on strong, localized partnerships. We work hand-in-hand with:
- The Cidanau Watershed Communication Forum (FKDC): Guiding the strategic implementation and oversight of the PES scheme.
- Local Forest Farmer Groups (KTH): Partnering directly with groups like the Barokah KTH in Kadubeureum Village, compensating them as the primary guardians of the forest.
- Environmental NGOs: Collaborating with organizations like Rekonvasi Bhumi to provide technical guidance and objective monitoring.
Why It Matters
The Cidanau Watershed supports the daily lives of local residents and fuels the economic engine of over 120 industries in Cilegon City and western Serang. By investing in the DAS Cidanau program, Chandra Asri Group is doing more than protecting a water source; we are building resilience against climate change, supporting the local green economy, and fulfilling our commitment to sustainable, responsible growth.
