Garut Regency Government Honors Bakti Barito Foundation With 2024 Partner Award for Their Inspiring Efforts to Accelerate Adiwiyata Schools

Garut Regency, Indonesia (June 5, 2024) – The Garut Regency Government, in collaboration with the Department of Environment Garut, celebrated World Environment Day by honoring Bakti Barito Foundation with the 2024 Partner Award. The award recognized Bakti Barito Foundation alongside five other outstanding partners Star Energy Geothermal Darajat II, Bank BJB Garut, Herlinah Cipta Mandiri, Aneka Tambang, and MDL 525.

The event highlighted the exceptional contributions of these partners in assisting schools to achieve the Adiwiyata Award, the national green school certification initiative that is part of the Environmental Care and Culture Movement in Schools (PBLHS) by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The awards were presented by the regional secretary of Garut Regency, Nurdin Yana, who also appreciated the Bakti Barito Foundation for its contribution to protecting the environment in Garut. He hopes that cooperation with the foundation can be extended because their programs are very helpful, especially in developing a healthy living environment in schools.

"The Bakti Barito Foundation, also in the context of other businesses in Garut, has also made a contribution, especially in developing how to foster a healthy living environment in schools," he said.

This partnership marks its second year, with Bakti Barito Foundation playing a key role in the initiative. The foundation, in collaboration with the Garut Regency Government, has committed to supporting an additional 31 schools this year, building on the success of assisting 25 schools last year. Garut Regency has a total of 110 Adiwiyata schools, this brings the total number of Adiwiyata schools in West Java to the highest in the region. The Garut Regency Government, through these recognitions, aims to encourage more schools and organizations to join the movement towards environmental sustainability.

Fifi Pangestu, the executive director of Bakti Barito Foundation, shared her thoughts on receiving the award: "We are honored to be recognized for our targeted efforts in supporting the Adiwiyata schools. Our collaboration with the Garut Regency Government maximizes our collective impact to drive meaningful change, and we are excited to continue our work in nurturing environmentally conscious future generations."

Bakti Barito Foundation’s flagship, Green Guardians, is a holistic school assistance program aimed at using climate education as a powerful tool to empower youth to lead progressive change in their communities and local environment.
